Elaine Towne worked for KRKO in the 1940s.  She was married to the station engineer and participated in many areas of the station from scheduling commercials to reading news.

Earle Gerdon is at the controls of the KRKO studios located in the Clarke Building at 29th and Wetmore in downtown Everett in this 1947 photograph.  Special thanks to Kim Summers for supplying this photograph.

This location is now fairway 15 at Legion Memorial Golf Course in North Everett.  The land for Tower Road was made available for Everett Community College and the City of Everett by the Taft family in the 1940s and remains as a monument to the transmitter site that once existed just south of the Hilltop Drive-In.

KRKO constructed it’s first vertical radiator in 1941 in downtown Everett. The antenna was manufactured by Blau-Knox, the pre-eminent antenna manufacturer of the era. This photo was taken facing northwest, with the alley behind the Everett First Presbyterian Church in the foreground. The Wall Street Building (currently Everett City Hall) replaced the Granada Hotel in the middleground on the left of the image. The antenna location is now a parking lot and the area behind the photographer, and out of the image is the Snohomish County government campus. KRKO’s "close" relationship with the Presbyterian Church remains to this day, though physical proximity made way for making it possible for the church to deliver a Sunday message every week at 8 A.M.

Entertainment was often produced live in the studios because recordings were so poor in the 1940s.  Note the vocalist and pianist listed among the staff.  Thelma Taft and her husband Bill owned the station and are shown in the brochure.

The playing card boxed sets came with two sets of cards.  This was the companion card to the original boxed set.

Highway 99 in North Everett in the 1940s and remained in that location for almost 15 years.  Tower Road, the entrance to Everett Community College, remains as a reminder of this long-gone facility.  Also note Shirley Bartholomew’s photo - the beginning of a legendary 40-year news tenure.

Bill and Thelma Taft loved playing bridge and purchased boxed sets of playing cards to give away as promotional items.  This is one example of their cards.
